There's a special kind of joy in a fresh gel manicure — that glassy shine, the way it makes your hands feel pulled-together. And there's a special kind of heartbreak when it chips three days later. I'm Angely, and I promise you, a little aftercare goes a long way.
It starts before the polish
A long-lasting gel manicure is built on great prep. When you come in, we gently buff, clean, and dehydrate the nail so the gel bonds properly. At home, the equivalent rule is simple: never apply oils or lotion right before a gel appointment — a dry, clean nail holds polish best.
Protect those edges
Most chips start at the free edge — the tip of your nail. Capping the tip during application (something we always do) seals that edge, but you can help too:
- Wear gloves for dishes, cleaning, and gardening.
- Don't use your nails as tools — open cans and packages with something else.
- Avoid long, hot soaks in the bath, which loosen the gel over time.
Oil, oil, oil
It feels counterintuitive, but cuticle oil actually helps gel last. It keeps the surrounding skin flexible and healthy so the gel doesn't lift at the edges. A drop on each nail every night keeps everything supple and shining.
Resist the urge to pick
When a corner starts to lift, picking it off takes layers of your natural nail with it. I see it all the time, and it genuinely hurts your nails. Instead, come in for a proper removal or a quick fix.
With good prep and gentle care, two to three weeks of flawless gel is absolutely realistic. When you're ready for your next set, we'll be here — you can book online any time.
