If I could whisper one thing into every client's ear, it would be this: do not peel your gel polish off. I'm Angely, and nine times out of ten, the “gel ruined my nails” story is really a peeling story. The good news? Safe removal is simple.
Why peeling is so harmful
Gel bonds to the top layer of your nail. When you peel it, you tear those layers away, leaving your nails thin, weak, and white. That damage takes months to grow out — all from a few seconds of picking.
The safe at-home method
If you can't get to the salon, here's how to do it gently:
- Lightly buff the shiny top layer of the gel (just the surface).
- Soak a small cotton pad in pure acetone, place it on the nail, and wrap each finger in foil.
- Wait 10–15 minutes, then gently push the softened gel off with a wooden stick — never scrape hard.
- If it resists, re-soak. Patience protects your nails.
Aftercare is non-negotiable
Acetone is drying, so the moment the gel is off, flood your nails with cuticle oil and hand cream. Give them a day or two to breathe before reapplying anything.
The easiest option of all
Honestly, professional removal is faster, safer, and kinder to your nails — and it's a lovely little reset for your hands. We're always happy to remove your gel gently and prep your nails for whatever comes next.
Be patient, be gentle, and your nails will stay healthy set after set.
