You'd be surprised how few tools you actually need to keep your nails healthy at home. I'm Angely, and I'd rather you own a small, quality kit you use well than a drawer of gadgets gathering dust. Here are the essentials.
A good glass or fine-grit file
Skip rough metal files — they shred the nail. A glass file or a fine emery board shapes gently. How to use it: file in one direction only, with light strokes.
A wooden cuticle stick
Gentle and infection-safe, a wooden stick pushes cuticles back without the risks of metal tools. How to use it: after a shower, when skin is soft, push back gently — never force.
Cuticle oil
The hero of any kit. How to use it: a drop on each nail every night, massaged into the nail and surrounding skin.
A quality hand cream
Choose one you love so you'll actually reach for it. How to use it: after every wash, working it down to your fingertips.
A soft buffing block
- Smooths ridges and adds natural shine.
- Use sparingly — once a week at most — so you don't thin the nail.
Glass-bottle base and top coats
A good base coat protects and helps polish grip; a top coat seals and shines. Together they make any at-home polish last noticeably longer.
Keep it clean
Wipe your tools, replace files regularly, and store everything dry. Clean tools are healthy tools.
That's it — a handful of thoughtful pieces, used with care, will keep your nails happy between salon visits.
